Taxpayers receive mass of fake emails supposedly from the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
Subject of the emails: “On identifying signs of the taxpayer risk and suspending registration of tax invoices according to Article 73 of the Tax Code”.
In fact, these emails have nothing to do with the State Tax Service. They are sent from the third-party email addresses and contain links or attachments with malicious software. Opening such files can infect personal computer and give attackers hidden access to it.
Reminder! Official email address of the Service for communication with the taxpayers is post@tax.gov.ua. If the letter comes from another address, this is a clear sign of forgery.
Particular attention should be paid to letters with attached files in the formats .pdf, .zip, .rar, .exe, scr. In such attachments that malware is most often hidden.
Taxpayers are urged to follow basic rules of cyber hygiene:
- do not open suspicious attachments or click on dubious links;
- always check sender’s address;
- do not trust letters with urgent demands or threats without additional verification, even if they allegedly come from familiar organizations or contacts.
