Illegal fuel production detected and stopped: more than 200 thousand liters of the counterfeit products were seized

Illegal production and sale of the counterfeit fuel was detected and stopped in Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Employees of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine and Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine under procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General’s Office were involved in exposing scheme within framework of the criminal proceedings.

During the investigation, more than 233 thousand liters of fuel were seized from illegal circulation, as well as 25 tons of stable gas condensate and 24 tons of multifunctional diluent. Total estimated cost of seized petroleum products and equipment is about 50 million UAH. In addition, equipment and tanks used for illegal production were sealed.

Law enforcement officers, with participation of tax officials, established that the scheme organizers, without appropriate permits, set up production at facilities of controlled business entities. Using special equipment, they mixed components of unknown origin and produced fuel that did not meet requirements of the state standards. They sold counterfeit fuel through a network of controlled gas stations.

Reminder: it is possible to carry out economic activities with fuel only if there is appropriate license; as stipulated by the Law of Ukraine № 3817-IХ as of 18.06.2024, illegal activities in this area entail administrative, financial, and in some cases criminal liability.

Under the martial law, illegal fuel production and trade cause losses to the state budget and reduce resources needed to support the Defense forces of Ukraine.

Business entities are urged to conduct economic activities exclusively within framework of current legislation.
