Ukrainian communities continue to increase tourism revenues. In the first 8 months of this year, 269.9 million UAH of the tourist tax was paid to local budgets. This is 23% more than in the same period last year. At that time, revenues amounted to 219.5 million UAH.
The biggest tourist tax revenues were recorded in regions with the most active tourist centers. In particular:
-Kyiv city – 53.8 million UAH;
- Lviv region – 52.5 million UAH;
- Ivano-Frankivsk region – 38.2 million UAH;
- Trans-Carpathian region – 27.5 million UAH.
Received funds are part of the local budgets’ revenues and the dynamics of their revenues makes it possible to assess activity of the tourism sector and its contribution to financial resources of territories.
Positive dynamics of revenues is also result of joint work of the State Tax Service and territorial communities to improve the tourist tax administration.
Draft project to improve the tourist tax administration in four communities of Khmelnytskyi and Chernivtsi regions, which was implemented by the State Tax Service in April this year, has demonstrated its effectiveness. Declared amounts of the tourist tax in the participating communities increased by 60%.
This draft project involves regular data exchange, joint analytical work, clarification and methodological support, as well as monitoring administration effectiveness.
State Tax Service has also launched analytical dashboard “Tourist Tax Analytics”.
New tool provides overview of the tourism tax revenues in Ukraine, as well as detailed information by region, territorial communities, types of payers and economic activity.
Dashboard can be useful for local governments in analyzing revenues, comparing community indicators and planning local budget revenues. Open data also allows representatives of the tourism industry and public to assess development of the tourism and its impact on the economy of territories.
