Another case of mass sending of emails allegedly on behalf of the State Tax Service of Ukraine has been recorded.
Fraudsters disguise their addresses as alleged addresses of the State Tax Service, which in fact have nothing to do with the Tax Service (rada@tax.gov.ua, noreply@tax.gov.ua). The subject of messages is “Urgent notification: Clarification of tax reporting based on the audit results”.
It should be emphasized that: the State Tax Service does not send such messages, and the email addresses from which these letters are sent do not belong to the State Tax Service.
These emails contain malware. Opening attached file launches a malicious program that creates technical opportunities for covert unauthorized access to the user’s personal computer.
There is also a real risk of personal computers being infected with viruses. Attachments to email messages can contain viruses and malicious software. Characteristic feature of such letters is the presence of attached files in .zip or .rar format, as well as files with scr, .ехе.
It is recommended:
- do not open attachments in suspicious emails;
- follow rules of personal cyber hygiene;
- be careful and attentive even if the email address seems legitimate - attackers can mask the sender’s address;
- if possible, check authenticity of received email, confirming the fact that it was sent by the sender.
