State Tax Service is expanding its partnership with tax authorities of the EU countries. Memorandums of cooperation with Lithuania and Latvia have been signed.
Memorandums of cooperation have been signed by acting Head of the State Tax Service Lesya Karnaukh, Director General of the State Revenue Service of Latvia Baiba Šmite-Roke and Director General of the State Tax Inspectorate of Lithuania Edita Janušienė within framework of the meeting of Directors General of Tax and Customs Administrations of the Baltic States.
“This is a new stage of our cooperation. We have quite long-standing professional contacts with our partners” – Lesya Karnaukh stated.
Lithuania and Latvia have already gone through the difficult path of transforming their Tax Services according to the European standards. They are ready to share this experience with Ukraine.
Tax authorities of three countries will cooperate in a number of areas:
- adaptation of tax legislation and administration to the EU standards;
- exchange of tax information and counteraction against shadow economy;
- development of modern services for the taxpayers;
- joint programs for training, advanced training and professional development of Tax Service’s employees;
- exchange of practices to reduce tax losses, particularly the VAT gap.
Meeting participants of the Baltic Directors General discussed current challenges currently facing tax and customs administrations across the Europe. These include budgetary and organizational changes, development of public services, digitalization, efforts to reduce shadow economy and impact of geopolitical events on tax administration and customs operations.
“This topic is of particular importance to us. Despite the full-scale war, we continue to provide uninterrupted services to the taxpayers and ensure revenues to the budget. I shared with our colleagues practical solutions that help tax administration remain functional, flexible and resilient even in difficult conditions” – stated acting Head of the State Tax Service.
Meeting was attended by representatives of the tax and customs authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, as well as other high-ranking officials of the participating administrations.
