State Tax Service does not fine people for selling personal belongings on the Internet sites

, published 07 April 2025 at 19:14

Information spread by a number of media outlets that the tax authorities have allegedly begun fining sellers from the OLX, Prom.ua, social networks, other platforms and are automatically tracking all money transfers to individuals’ accounts, even if they are selling personal items online, is untrue.

The following should be emphasized:

- sale of individual property (personal belongings) is not considered a basis for financial or administrative liability for violation of requirements of current tax legislation;

- only systematic sale and at the same time a homogeneous assortment of products has signs of entrepreneurial (economic) activity. This does not apply to the sale of individual property (personal belongings) by citizens using such electronic trading platforms as the OLX, Prom and any social networks;

- increased control over online sales is being carried out to prevent abuse and tax evasion specifically in the entrepreneurial activity.

State Tax Service once again calls on business entities that remain in the "shadow" to bring their activities into line with legislative requirements independently and voluntarily:

- officially register as the business entity;

- make payments through duly registered RRO/PRRO;

- comply with tax legislation in order to avoid financial and administrative liability in the future.
