During the 1st quarter of 2020, payers of the environmental tax paid 10.5 million UAH of the environmental tax to the consolidated budget to eliminate environmental damage.
The state budget received 6.5 million UAH of the environmental tax – which is 63% or 2.5 million UAH more than during January-March 2019. As of January-March 2020, the local budgets received 4.1 million UAH of the specified tax.
Using these funds, the state and local self-governments are able to fund activities that are being undertaken to protect the environment, restore the environment and use natural resources.
It should be reminded that the environmental tax is paid by the taxpayers, in the course of whose activities on the territory of Ukraine and within its continental shelf and exclusive (maritime) economic zone there are:
- emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere by stationary sources of pollution;
- discharges of pollutants directly into water bodies;
- disposal of waste (except for the placement of individual types (classes) of waste as secondary raw materials which are disposed of on their own territories (objects) of business entities);
- generation of radioactive waste (including accumulated waste);
- temporary storage of radioactive waste by their manufacturers beyond the specified terms of the license.
